Trump appointed justices that overturned Roe V Wade. The left had a meltdown thinking this would be the end of abortion. The right was estatic thinking this would be the end of abortion. In reality ending Roe V Wade sent the issue of abortion back to the states (where it should have been all along) and ended federal involvement in abortion law.
Trump, after all the misgivings about his being pro life, turned out to be one of the most pro life Presidents we've had to date. I never thought i would live to see Roe V Wade overturned. I don't think any of us did.
People forget, perhaps because the Roe V Wade decision overshadowed this, that Trump also ended the federal funding of Planned Parenthood. He stopped the federal government from forcing religious health care institutions to violate their conscience and support abortion.
While abortion is still legal in many states it can't be overstated how Trump's actions on the issue probably saved millions of lives including the grandchildren of babies spared; for generations to come.
Trump made his own opinion clear though. He believes there should be 3 exceptions to the ban and those are rape, incest and the life of the mother.
He cites Ronald Reagan who also held that same position. I saw some Trump supporters on Twitter who were not happy-i saw some DeSantis supporters use this as an opportunity to attack Trump. While his answer on the NBC interview was honest-Trump doesn't lie-it could have been more diplomatic.
People felt he capitulated or compromised. He did neither. His opinion isn't going to change a single law. People on the left claim Trump lies when in reality he is brutally honest and that's one of the reasons he offends some people.
I disagree with Trump's opinion but i recognize it for what it is; an opinion. He was right in saying the left is radical when it comes to abortion.
Many do support it right through to the 9th month of pregnancy and one Va. governor could envision a baby surviving abortion and then deciding whether it should live or die, that is commit infanticide.
The fact is a lot of ppl support a ban with the 3 exceptions Trump mentioned. I live in a very liberal state. Fetterman won here because he brought up abortion and the Republican candidates avoided it like the plague.
The Dem party did that deliberately. They MADE the abortion issue front and center in Pa. knowing it would destroy the Republican candidate. They do this all the time.
I believe life begins at conception and ends at natural death, but i bet if you went to my neighbors nearly all of them would take the position Trump did.
A few would support a total ban and another few would support making it legal with no limits.
It's easier to govern 1 state than it is to govern all 50 at once. When you have 50 there is diversity of opinion that you don't get in a single state.
IF i were Trump i would have said, "this is what i think about abortion [3 exceptions] but i respect the right of states to detemine their own abortion laws".Period. He didn't need to attack the pro life states that passed the heartbeat law.
People were in an uproar over his answer thinking he had suddenly abandoned the pro life movement. The problem is his answer was only an opinion and wasn't going to change a single law.
I disagree with his opinion but i also know Trump has protected the pro life movement and the left under Biden has become more hostile towards the pro life movement than it has ever been.
Biden lets them get away with murder and looks the other way and worse. Biden's DOJ has imprisoned pro life activists. Pro abortion groups have attacked pro life centers, vandalizing and destroying them. Biden's DOJ let them get away with it. Obama had laws passed that forced Catholic and other Christian health care institutions to either violate their conscience or get shut down.
We have to win these elections because the left not only wants abortion legalized without any restrictions they treat pro life groups like domestic terrorists. Trump made sure we were protected and our rights respected.
You want to change the law? Change hearts and minds first. i have always said this. All the issue has done is divide the country.I can remember when abortion was ilegal and very rare.
Once it was legalized it reached the level of genocide. The left made the false claim legalizing it would make it rare. It already was. They also failed to tell people the goal of Planned Parenthood and its origins. They covered it up. They counted on people's ignorance.
Our problem is if we don't get pro life candidates elected the chances of passing pro life legislation is dead. We have to change hearts and minds first. Fortunately i believe the pro life movement has grown. We've made inroads in changing hearts and minds but we still have a long way to go.
However, the DeSantis supporters failed to mention the heartbeat law includes the same 3 exceptions that Trump mentioned-with one slight difference.
The legislation allows the 3 exceptions up until the 15th week of pregnancy.
Let's recognize that it was Roe V Wade being overturned that made passing the heartbeat law possible.
For those of us who believe life begins at conception we have a tough battle. How do you explain to people not making exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother?
When the life of the mother is threatened it is a complication known as an ecoptic pregnancy. It is a rare complication but potentially life threatening to the mother... An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the main cavity of the uterus.
It’s important to note that the fertilized egg in an ectopic pregnancy is not “viable.” That means it’s impossible for the egg to survive and grow into a baby that can survive in or outside your body. It will always result in a pregnancy loss. That’s because the egg can’t get the blood supply and support it needs to grow outside of the uterus.
The doctor does NOT perform an abortion. This egg is not going to survive and left untreated both die. The woman must seek help immediately. You're Catholic? Catholic teaching is that you don't DELIBERATELY KILL the egg, fetus or baby. There is a difference between deliberately destroying a human life and an UNINTENDED consequence.
Again, the doctor does not perform an abortion. The mother must get treatment. There's no choice-they could both die.
Now we are left with the 2 exceptions; rape and incest and neither of these is easy to discuss much less convince people you can't make exceptions.
People will see you as cruel and anti woman but we have to open the discussion. We can talk to reasonable people who mean well-doh't assume that ALL people who support exceptions are radicals who want abortion on demand, no restrictions. Yes, there are radicals. Call them out. Trump is not on that side.
If he had been more diplomatic and explained himself rather than attack the heartbeat law i don't think people would have been as bent out of shape as they were. Suddenly he's a flaming liberal, he capitulated, he compromised, he was dishonest and was pro abortion all along etc.
i've heard all these accusations and i know none of them are true-he's never been afraid to say what he thinks- but i can see where people would get that impression. Sometimes it's not what he's trying to say,it's how he says it.
Keep in mind that the media can take and edit an interview, a statement, a speech. They do this to inflict damage on Trump. We all remember what they did to his Charlottesville statement.
