You would probably guess that my favorite you tube channel would be covering U.S.politics,right?
Yes, i do watch several of those but my favorite you tube channel is L3WG A Brit Reacts.
He's from Birmingham, England(Ozzy's home town). He loves all things American. Ironically i have always been fascinated by his home country but i've been learning a lot about America just from watching his channel.
Things i just didn't know even after being here for a lifetime. Some of it has been a refresher course.
His name is Lewis and he is getting ready to make his first trip to the U.S. this winter, destination NYC -that is, soon. I believe he plans to be here for Christmas or shortly after.
His excitement is off the charts. It wouldn't be my first choice of destinations here but it's his dream he is going to live out. I'm concerned that the U.S. may not meet his expectations because they're so high. I would hate to see he is disappointed.
I hope he is prepared. NYC is very expensive. Winters can be brutal in the states-what if NYC experiences a blizzard while he's here?
I personally think NYC is crazy and overcrowded too. If i were him i would have picked Florida where the snowbirds* go,Texas or California.Do NYC in the spring, summer or fall?
Thanks to Lewis i found a lot of you tube channels from people who had the dream too and came here.
Every person or couple who came here had very diverse interests. Some wanted to explore nature and our parks, others went to the big cities and some just wanted to experience America.
The people looking for America in general didn't seem to have a set goal in mind. They would pick a state and narrow it down to a city; the typical places tourists go.
There is the essence of America. You decide what you are in search of here and the ones i have watched have found it. Some of these folks are still on the journey.
Lewis has also taught me a lot about my own country as he's learning himself. I feel like they're all sharing the adventure with me.
I'll name a few and they're mostly from the British countries. There's Philly and Keely, Adam Crouser(Irish), The New Zealand Family, European Reacts(Portugal), Kabir Considers(England), Shaun(Scottish).
I live vicariously through all these people who are taking me to the places I will never go.One exception: mom took us to the NY World's Fair NYC by train in 1964.
I enjoy learning our history through Lewis; things i knew and had forgotten, things i never knew that have enriched my appreciation of the United States. Some people search in the small towns, others the big cities. Philly and Keely are rock climbers who are doing a road trip in their camper (they named Milo) through the great outdoors.
They have a genuine love of nature and adventure. The New Zealanders are traveling with their children so their plans are generally family orientated. Some of the other people i follow have visited America, some are planning to while others may never come here at all.
Among these are James and Siania, Jack Aynsley Travel, Mr H and Friends,The Beesley's (all British)and Recky and Carol(Swedes). The list is quite long-i've only listed a handful. However, if you're interested at all just follow a few of them and you will find all of them.
Most foreigners get their ideas about America from movies and entertainment. You'd be surprised by how many of the people i follow have mentioned the fact that their picture of America came from movies they had watched.
There is one special vlogger i discovered through Lewis whose channel is called Lost In the Pond. Don't miss it. He's a Brit who came here and has been a citizen now for 16 yr.
I'm not sure how i ran into Lewis; known as L3WG**.It was likely a title that got my attention. He has a wonderful family he's introduced & started to include in his videos. They are all a lot of fun. i can't wait to see him as he documents his first trip here!
What i've learned through ALL these good people is that we American's tend to take our blessings for granted. I should also mention i'm a small town gal who doesn't have much enthusiasm for the cities. I suppose i'm biased in that regard.
*Snowbirds is what they call the people from up north who flock to Florida for the winter. I had an aunt and uncle who went every year to a 2nd home in Sarasota,Florida.
** I don't know what L3WG stands for but it sounds like a call sign for ham(amateur)radio. Maybe it's the British equivalent?
