When debate night is over everyone believes THEIR candidate won irregardless what the polls say. I have a question though. What constitutes a debate win? The wittiest line, the most memorable, the great policy discussions that never happen, how good the moderators gotcha questions were? First of all most of the candidates statements are scripted including the one liner every candidate tries to work in. Does the viewer walk away anymore informed after as before? I'll tell you who won debate night. i may be biased (you know i am)but someone with the brains NOT to show up. Donald Trump. The only good i ever see coming out of these debates is that sometimes it gets rid of the bottom tier in a primary. The people who don't have a snowballs chance in hell of winning and you can't figure out why they're even in the race.
You're scratching your head wondering why they're even bothering? They're at 0 and 1. There was no big outcry for them to get in. People can't stand them but there they are thinking there might be a ground swell of support somewhere? Like Pence and Christie. We know there are Never Trumpers with big money whispering in the ear of people like DeSantis and you'd hope they wouldn't listen but money and sometimes name id has more influence than it should.
Other times it knocks a top candidate out though i can't see where a stupid debate figures in, but sometimes it does.
I obviously don't care for these debates and don't think they serve much of a purpose.IMHO It's all show.
Maybe if they were a different format they would be more helpful in informing the voters. Two years from now who remembers them anyway? The moderators are usually very biased and somewhat nasty. A random audience question is more likely to bring up a topic of concern to voters. These mods never seem to get what's on the mind of voters. The participants never really get enough time to give an in depth answer to difficult problems. Then you have candidates like Pence having a hissy that they're being shorted on time when everyone on that stage gets shorted and sometimes there are candidates who get no time at all. There's 1 or 2 that suck the oxygen right out of the room for the rest of the panel. Pence looked like a fool complaining he didn't get enough time. Nobody gets enough time.
The general election debates aren't always much better. Chris Wallace moderated one between Trump and Biden and all he did was provide cover for Biden. Terrible moderator-waste of time.
Vivek was a smooth talker. He got his focus group talking points right. Some people were just absolutely taken by Vivek. For all the chatter about him ask yourself where was he when Trump was being accused of being a Russian agent, when the left was attacking the justices, when Trump was impeached twice? He thinks Trump was a great President. Ok, then why is he running against him?
A month ago would you have known there was a candidate named Vivek? i didn't know. Never heard of the guy and now he's running for President? Out of the blue with no record to speak of and we're considering him to be President of the United States? i'm sorry but that's a hard pass; even if i weren't solid behind Pres Trump-and i am-Vivek would not even be a consideration.
IMHO all these candidates are weak and for the benefit of the country should drop out and endorse Trump 100%. Vivek shouldn't even be a remote consideration. i can't believe we'd fall for an Obama like figure who had no track record and we know nothing about except what he's telling us.
Scary.
Overall, they can cut out these debates anytime. i don't feel any better off or more informed when they are over. Do you? I didn't watch the one Fox carried-i watched Tucker-Trump. It was pretty darned good. Missed one or two topics he could have brought up but he did hit on some i hadn't thought of.
It was interesting and useful. Let me know what you thought about either in the comments. i'd love to hear other opinions.
BTW, i am hearing word on Twitter/x that there are SOME RINO's who are attempting to get Trump off their state ballots. We're going to have to have a discussion re in the forum and get some action going ie phone calls etc. It's only a few but I'll name names and we'll see what we can do even if it comes down to a write in campaign.
I'll do a blog entry on it too.
