Some terms that are going to come up.
legitimate authority* vs authoritarian
liberty vs licentiousness
law and order vs lawfare
My parents were Democrat through and through. We were jubilant when John Kennedy was elected President. I was heavily influenced to join to the Democrat party when i was of age.
I wasn't into politics at all but i was convinced the Dems were for the working class like my folks. The little guy was another way to put it.
The Republicans were only for the rich and upper class. i never saw any evidence whether this was true or not and i didn't know any Republicans. either.
There was nothing to go by and politics was not a big deal to me anyway ;at least at the time.
The voting age was 21 too. It was for the adults. i recall seeing one of the folks newspapers they got on a regular basis.
It was the New York post or Times-something to do with New York-and there was the front cover of a young lady with the headline " World Beatnk Swarm Grows." It wasn't a a beatnik. I knew those from the 50's. It was a hippy.
We were in for a cultural change. A radical culture change though i wouldn't have that perspective on it at the time,
Remember when Kennedy was elected abortion was illegal, homosexuality was kept quiet, transgender would have been unheard of. You just couldn't imagine anyone defending the killing of babies or people other than male and female getting married.
Then I envisioned myself becoming what was known as a 'free spirit." My parents didn't seem to notice the change in the Democrat party. I'm convinced they were oblivious to where their party was going.
There was a slogan, "Turn on, Tune in, Drop out (probably from Timothy Leary).
What a message, no?
This all bears some sort of explanation. I was 14-16 yr old at the time of the new youth culture. We lived in a small town which would be labeled conservative these days. Parents were strict.
Life was pretty dull where we lived. Their music didn't do it for me at all.Mom watched Lawarance Welk and his bubbles every wek. It was called champagne music. You get the picture
I think my parents were not only oblivious to their own political party but were stuck in their 30's and 40's mindset.
Bob Dylan summed it up. "You criticize what you don't understand". They didn't just fail to understand, they failed to see it. They were good people but a tad niave.
I will always give props to the music of that era. The creativity of the time was amazing.
The Civil Rights movement deserves much cred & accolades. We wouldn't be where we're at now, with our respect for people of other races, were it not for Martin Luther King Jr and his supporters. The 60's-70's wasn't all bad.
It wasn't all that good either.
There were very destructive forces out there. We mistook licentiousness for liberty. It was
the 1st mistake in our thinking followed by mistaking legit authority for authoritarianism.
The majority of the American people began to oppose the Vietnam war albeit for a number of different
different reasons. I wonder now if there weren't communist sympathizers in our country along with people who objected based on conscience (and other reasons). We were likely war weary by the time it ended.
There was a political component to these movements. I'm sure Marxists and anti American forcss were encouraging all the events going on.The rest of us were just plain hedonistic. It was that simple for most of us.
Hard to admit. It's true if you're being honest with yourself. It was our march to a non existent utopia.
We believed everything was up for grabs as long as it didn't hurt anyone else. Say it aint so. It was.
Now that i've looked back we need to look to the present. The radical left planted the roots and it grew.
I also believe some of the liberal nonsense infiltrated the Catholic Church. and we're still contending with it.
Thank God i had an epiphany!
Were it not for this epiphany i doubt i'd have voted for President Trump. Back when the news was limited to 3 people and the broadcasts went off at midnight. Some of us remember the national anthem playing as our TV's went off for the nightToday the media is totally corrupt and works for the Democrat party. The Democrat party is totally corrupt.
Some Republicans are totally corrupt. The cable news is 24-7 too. We were probably better off when it shut down at midnight.
They say Trump is Hitler. It's total garbage and insulting to people who honestly suffered through the Holocaust. It's pretty rich coming from a party that's antisemetic. We're all watching the violent campus protests supporting Hamas and attacking the Jewish people. The Democrats must want Sharia law in the United States. They must want Israel destroyed. They must want America destroyed.
They're trying to take down Netanyahu just like they tried to take down Trump (and still are).
When you're in this cabal you don't want anyone in your way.Our candidates must have their approval.
If Trump were Hitler he wouldn't be supporting Israel and his daughter, son-in-lw and grandchild would not be Jewish.
If Trump were authoritarian he would have done everything the Democrats did to him in 2016 and 2020. Yet, there are people out there who believe everything the media tells them unquestionably.
If Trump were planning to destroy our Republic he would have done everything Joe Biden did with the help of the legacy media. He didn't. Liberalism is sick. It is all going in 1 direction-each decade becoming crazier than the last.
For me the epophany came when the Democrat party supported abortion. I just couldn't fathom it.
When you start by legalizing abortion & same sex marriage, calling porn art when it's vice, encouraging irresponsibility and tearing down the tried and true that holds society together there's nowhere to go but down.
The late Andrew Brietbart had his epiphany about liberalaism a few years after I did-almost for the same reason. He watched the confirmation hearing of Clarance Thomas.
I watched the same hearing. He realized how rotten to the core the Democrats were during that hearing. They treated Thomas horribly and that did it for Andrew. BIden was on the committee.
[Joe Biden was the worst].Andrew came to his conclusion re liberalism because of Thomas' treatment and i knew why he was treated the way he was-abortion.
Justice Thomas is both Catholic & pro life.
If you can see abortion for the evil it is and notice that the Democrat party defends it come hell or high water you start to see other evils. There was nowhere for liberalism to go but down. It was definitely a slippery slope.
Look where we are now.
They've resorted to violence. After everything they've done to President Trump this cannot be surprising.
They were violent in 2016 and got away with it.
If Trump were a dictator none of this could have happened to him. If Trump were Hitler he would not defend Israel and protect the Jewish people. If Trump were out to destroy our democratic elections he wouldn't be calling to pprotect it from abuse.
Liberals have to know what they're doing is wrong but they don't care.
Trump, Vance and Elon will not be intimidated.
*from the Catechism of the Catholic Church
1899 The authority required by the moral order derives from God: "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment." 17
1900 The duty of obedience requires all to give due honor to authority and to treat those who are charged to exercise it
with respect, and, insofar as it is deserved, with gratitude and good-will.
1903 Authority is exercised legitimately only when it seeks the common good of the group concerned and if it employs morally licit means to attain it. If rulers were to enact unjust laws or take measures contrary to the moral order, such arrangements would not be binding in conscience. In such a case, "authority breaks down completely and results in shameful abuse." 23
