People used to flock to the United States because they wanted to live in a country where they could protest and air their grievances against their government without the fear of a knock on their door.
People used to escape here to live in a country where they could practice their faith tradition, express that faith publicly, assemble with the people of their faith community and vote based on the values of their community without being shamed, mocked, censored and ostracized from the public square. They knew the Constitution protected them no matter how the political winds shifted.
The people came here because they could trust our elections. They knew the vote they cast would be counted; protected from fraud & corruption by our own election laws as decided by the state legislators; as the Constitution states.
They had faith in our media to investigate and report actual news-not flood their homes with propaganda benefitting only the person the media wanted to keep in power. They could be proud they
didn't have a corrupt media in the pocket of the party or person in power.
They'gave their right arm to get here because they knew the government would never turn its arms on its own citizens-not in a million years!
They could see that our Presidents were of, by and for the people because unlike their governments, the person in power-their President/Prime Minister, Leader didn't try to imprison his/her opponents to win an election. Our elections were honest and they wanted to be a part of that. They wanted to be reasonably sure their vote counted and they were being represented.
They admired our Constitution, respected our laws, appreciated the opportunity to experience real liberty where their God given rights meant something.
They longed to be in a country where thugs didn't rule the streets trying to intimidate them into supporting a certain candidate, party or ideology.
They knew that in their own country and other countries their Constitution was just a piece of paper. They looked up to the United States for being a country that cherished their Constitution and the effort it made over the years to live up to its ideals. They knew it wasn't a perfect country but that lt at least attempted to live out what its Constitution aspired to. It meant something that their rights came from God here-not the whims of the state that might have no respect for men. They understood very well that a government that believed [it]could give them their rights-it could also take them away and did. They were sure the American people would never vote such a party in power. They wanted to be here and become proud Americans too.
My question is this; where are they going to go now?
